Ontario Full-Day Early Learning- Kindergarten Program
Math: Specific Expectations
DM 5.1 - sort, classify, and compare objects and describe attributes used
DM 5.2 - collect objects and data and make representations of their observations, using concrete graphs
When we started looking at collecting objects and data we looked to objects that the learners were interested. So we looked at our classroom and our environment. Mr. Paul is working with the SK learners with the more complicated task of examining objects and looking at their attributes (size, colour, shape, etc.) while Ms. Sathananthan is helping our JK learning sort and classify with more explicit instruction.

We also collected and sorted data that reflected us. The first question that we posed was 'How do you get to school?' With the help of the Mandarin & Cantonese translators, we were able to get everyone to answer this question and represent the data on our graph. We then looked at the data and answered the following questions:
1. Which one has the most? Prove it!
2. Which one has the least? Prove it!
3. Would Ms. Luu's & Mr. Wong's class look the same/ Why/why not?

We then looked at the languages that we speak and were really surprised by the multiple languages that we speak! After graphing our data we poses the following questions:
1. Which one has the most? Prove it!
2. Which one has the least? Prove it!
3. How does this help us understand our class?

Reflection:
How can we have conversations about the learners in the space who are not a part of the cultural/linguistic majority?
How can we value ALL languages and cultural practices?
