One Scoop or Two?

How it all began

The excitement of the winter break has passed and we are now seeing interesting new projects begin to appear.  The energy behind our toy store was overshadowed by the break and the educators thought it was best to see what happened when we returned.

An ice cream shop kept on appearing in the designated math area and Ms. Wu began to take note. There were the same students setting up shop and making interesting creations (as well as creating a 3-day sorting activity by mixing up all of the math materials!). We waited for school to begin again to see what would happen and the ice cream shop came back on the first day.

Ice cream in winter? We hadn't planed for this one!

Voting on the name of the new dramatic play area... Spiderman Ice Cream Shop!

We have been sharing a lot of our experiences and ideas around ice cream. It turns out that a lot of ice cream flavours are difficult to pronounce - vanilla and chocolate are really challenging words! The learners are currently creating the menus, store sign, display menu, ice cream cones, toppings and more!

Virtual Field Trip

Cone Display at Ed's Real Scoop
It is sometimes difficult to co-ordinate a class trip, especially when the place you want to visit is not easy to access. So we tried a 'Virtual Field Trip'. Mr. Berberick is very lucky to live near a great ice cream shop called Ed's Real Scoop. They were very kind to let our class get a behind-the-scene tour of what happens at their store. They even donated some containers and spoons for us to use in Spiderman Ice Cream Shop.

How Perfect! We are learning about measurement in Math.

We have decided to recreate this sign for our own store.

Please Check back next week for the
 Spiderman Ice Cream's Grand Opening!
